Make a lasting first impression with a brighter, whiter, more beautiful smile…
The problem…Yellow, darkly stained and ageing teeth can be such an embarrassment that people will avoid smiling, lack self confidence and appear to be unhappy people.
The solution...Modern dentistry has introduced ways to whiten even intensely dark, tetracycline stained teeth.
Finding the right solution for your smile… There are so many professional teeth whitening systems and over-the-counter tooth whitening products available today that many consumers are confused as to which one they should invest in. Some of the teeth whitening options to consider are:
- Store bought whitening strips
- ZOOM or ZOOM2
- Laser teeth whitening
- Standard tray bleaching
- Kor whitening and deep bleaching systems
Over the past 18 years I have used all of these teeth whitening methods with my patients so I can tell you what I have found to be the absolute best teeth bleaching system available. When choosing which is the best system we need to consider the answers to a few commonly asked questions:
- How much does the teeth whitening system cost?
- Will the teeth bleaching option actually work?
- How much whiter can I expect my teeth to be?
- How long will the results last?
- Should I expect pain or sensitivity?
- Is teeth whitening safe?
I encourage my patients to invest in a tooth whitening system that actually works, has minimal sensitivity and has permanent results. Following these parameters we eliminate many of the available options.
How does it all work? What works is allowing the tooth whitening agent (hydrogen peroxide) to stay on the tooth structure for a duration that allows the gel to break up the large color molecules into smaller molecules that are located inside of the teeth. Repeating this procedure consistently and daily until the desired shade is reached is the best way to get permanent tooth whitening results. The procedures of delivering the hydrogen peroxide to the teeth tends to be the biggest factor in success of a tooth whitening system. Every day our bodies produce copious amounts of hydrogen peroxide naturally so we are designed to break down the hydrogen peroxide. Peroxidase, found in our saliva(spit), immediately breaks down hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is safe for this reason and the teeth are not harmed in the bleaching process. But because of this fact, it is very important to have a system that does not allow saliva to reach the whitening gel. Ultimately it is best to use a precisely fabricated tray system made from high definition polyvinylsiloxane impressions of the teeth that serve as suction cups on the teeth sealing out the saliva and also sealing in the hydrogen peroxide gel. This type of tray is made with the Kor deep bleaching system. Standard tray bleaching systems are not fabricated with these materials so saliva commonly fills the trays and bleaching agent tends to flow into the mouth. Of course the over the counter strips have no tray to protect the breakdown of the peroxide.
How long is it going to take? Teeth bleaching is like weight loss. If you go on a crash diet, you don’t eat much for a week and drink a ton of water then you can lose 10 pounds fast…BUT you are going to feel lousy and you are going to put the weight back on quickly once you stop the radical dieting. Laser teeth whitening procedures or procedures like ZOOM or ZOOM2 that use a light are similar to a crash diet. Sure you can have whiter teeth in one hour but what is really going on is the teeth are being severely dehydrated within that hour so they usually are extremely sensitive during the procedure and hurt for around 24 hours. Within a week or so of the procedure, most of the teeth will rehydrate and become darker again.
Kor deep bleaching relies on wearing custom, precisely fitting trays consistently every night for an average of two weeks to reach ideal tooth shade. Consistency, not skipping even one day is another key to optimal results…just like a diet and exercise plan when trying to lose weight. The Kor system has two components to minimize sensitivity: a hydrogen peroxide gel that is aqueous based to prevent dehydration of the teeth and a desensitizer that is applied to the teeth during the procedures that seals off the tubules in the teeth that allow sensitivity to occur. In patients that are more difficult to bleach Kor recommends wearing the trays for additional weeks and/or using an in-office highly concentrated gel procedure. Kor results are permanent if maintained as directed for your particular case. Most of the time this means wearing Kor trays for one night each month. Whitening strips and standard tray bleaching system usually cause tooth sensitivity and burning gums which prevent people from wearing these on a consistent, daily basis.
Are you a good candidate for teeth whitening?
The best candidates for tooth whitening procedures are patients with healthy teeth that have unwanted yellow or brown coloring or staining. White spots do not tend to change color but sometimes blend better after whitening procedures. Translucency in teeth, blue to gray shade usually on the biting edges of the front teeth, does not whiten. These areas are see-through like glass and you can imagine that you can not whiten glass. Kor deep bleaching does have a specific system for patients with dark, banded tetracyline stained teeth. I have used this system on several patients and when used properly they have reached the lightest shade on the standard shade guide. It really is amazing and has transformed the lives of many people who have always been told that tooth bleaching could not help them.
Pricing…Invest in a product that delivers value for money!
The costs of these tooth bleaching options varies and professional whitening can vary widely depending on the quality of the materials that are used and the area that you live. Over-the-counter white strips can range from around $30-$60 dollars per box but many times several boxes are needed to reach a desired shade. Standard tray bleaching normally ranges between $200-$500. You could expect to pay between $500-$1200 for ZOOM or ZOOM2. The average patient normally invests $500-$800 for Kor deep bleaching. Kor Max Ultra deep bleaching transforms our extreme tetracycline stained patients for $1200. In our office, we offer Kor whitening procedures for as little as $50 per month for qualified applicants.
My overall recommendation…And the winner is…..
Kor Deep Bleaching System has been the best teeth whitening system that I have used in my 18 years of practice. I have seen some dramatic improvements in shade and as a result in the overall personality and self esteem of my patients. Kor deep bleaching is the most cost effective form of professional tooth whitening because of the facts that it is permanent, minimizes discomfort and provides the whitest shades possible.

Modern dentistry has so much more to offer people who value a healthy, beautiful and confident smile. Porcelain dental veneers are most likely the treatment of choice for an instant and permanent smile makeover. Many of my patients ask questions like; “What are veneers for the teeth?”, “What are Lumineers?”, “What are the pros and cons of dental veneers?”, “How much do porcelain veneers cost?”, and ” What are no prep veneers?”. The answers to these questions help people determine if they are a candidate for porcelain veneers.
So what are Porcelain Veneers?…
Porcelain veneers are very thin pieces of glass that are permanently bonded to a patient’s natural tooth enamel. They are very different from traditional porcelain to metal crowns. Porcelain to metal crowns tend to have a dark or black margin line near the gum and a color or brightness that is influenced by an underlying opaquer (which looks very artificial and does not tend to blend with the other teeth); also these crowns are cemented or mechanically retained to a tooth stump that is severely whittled down. Porcelain veneers, on the other hand, do not have any metal base which eliminates dark lines and opaquers. Light can travel through the veneer, like it would with natural enamel, resulting in a nice balance of translucency which is very similar to the surrounding teeth.
Preserve your natural smile for a lifetime…
Very minimal and sometimes no tooth reduction is required when preparing the teeth for porcelain veneers. Preserving as much enamel as possible allows a strong chemical bond to be created between the teeth and the porcelain veneers. Since veneers are bonded rather than mechanically cemented, they are highly unlikely to come off like a crown might. A veneer’s strength is similar to natural enamel and would probably break similarly to enamel, if traumatized, rather than come off in one piece. When properly cared for, this generation of porcelain veneers can last a lifetime, without ever having to be replaced.
There are different types of porcelain used to make dental veneers and different preparation indications. No prep (prepless) veneers are ideal. Lumineers is a product name for a type of “no prep veneer” but ultimately custom no prep dental veneers planned from a diagnostic design created on a patient’s specific molds are the best dental veneer option available.
In what ways can porcelain veneers transform your smile?
- Permanent teeth whitening: Teeth veneers are made of a glazed glass that will not change in color, they will not stain and they rarely buildup plaque or tartar. When a smile is designed completely with veneers then a patient can select almost any shade that they would like.
- Instant orthodontics: Adult patients that have mild to moderate crowding or crooked teeth, in the absence of a poor bite relationship, can benefit by having perfectly straight teeth with porcelain veneers and in as little as two weeks rather than the years it may take with traditional orthodontics.
- Close spaces and create larger teeth: No prep veneers, similar to Lumineers, are the treatment of choice if a person has spacing between teeth and proportionally small teeth.
The procedure for porcelain veneers may vary from one dental office to another. What I would recommend to everyone considering porcelain dental veneers is to start with a thorough examination and education as to what is going on in your mouth by a cosmetic dentist that preferably has an in- office dental lab. Cosmetic problems can result from functional or biomechanical problems and these issues should be resolved in order to have great, long term results.
The Hamburg Expressions Veneers Experience…
With my patients, I do a thorough examination and take records of their existing condition. We talk about their objective and I propose treatment that will allow them to achieve their objective. I have an advantage over most cosmetic dentists in the fact that I have an in-office dental lab. My dental lab will design the patients case on study models prior to initiating any treatment. This allows us to visualize our final result and use the design as a road map to our finished product. This design is the most important tool to achieve consistent, predicatable, beautiful results in a conservative and efficient manner.
The treatment process…
Once a treatment plan is decided upon the process is pretty quick.Routinely, I will prepare teeth for veneers in one appointment using guides made from my design.I will take impressions of the prepared teeth to provide the lab with and the patient will wear temporary veneers that are the same form as our planned final design. This allows the patient a week or so to be sure that they are happy with the form and length of the new veneers. If a patient would like to tweek a few things in form then this can easily be relayed to the lab so that the final porcelain will reflect the changes. The next appointment, scheduled about 2 weeks after the prep appointment, is seating the final porcelain veneers. This is done in one appointment as well. Our patients are given an opportunity to try on the porcelain and request any changes prior to the final bond. The on site dental lab can make any changes at that same appointment which eliminates the need to go back into temporaries in order to send the changes off to some far off lab. In my office I love to photograph my patients.
Capture your special moment: I often provide professional portraits to my patients of their beautiful new smiles.
The most common question is, ” How much do porcelain veneers cost?” or “What is the price for porcelain veneers?”. Of course, the cost of any product can vary from one dental office to another. Many cosmetic dentists charge $1500-$2000 for a single dental veneer. In our office, where we have the unique efficiency of our on site dental lab, we are able to keep our fees for porcelain veneers between $1000-$1200 per veneer. The final cost per veneer depends on the number of veneers treatment planned and the type of financial arrangement selected. We offer our qualifying patients payment plans through Care Credit, Citibank, or Visa and Mastercard.
Your smile is a reflection of who you are and is often times the very first thing people notice about you. Porcelain veneers are a conservative, permanent and beautiful way to restore a confident, healthy smile that will last a lifetime. If you are interested in a complimentary consultation to see if you may be a candidate for porcelain veneers then please call our office at 859.543.9000. Jenny Miller DMD
DR JENNY MILLER is meeting demand for a growing market of patients looking to enhance their smiles with advanced cosmetic dentistry treatments.
As the principal dentist at her Hamburg Expressions Dental Practice in Lexington Kentucky, Dr Jenny Miller is redefining modern dentistry with her philosophy on cosmetic dental treatment.
Dr Miller has seen a dramatic increase in the request for cosmetic related dental treatment over the last two years, with around 70 per cent of new patients seeking cosmetic enhancement.
“I have seen a significant rise in the number of patients coming to me with cosmetic concerns as their main priority,” said Dr Miller.
“We believe the significant rise in people seeking cosmetic dentistry treatment is because now there are now so many options available for people who are not happy with their most important feature – their smile.
“Creating naturally beautiful smiles can only be done by studying and duplicating what we have all agreed is an aesthetically pleasing smile. A beautiful smile is universally attractive, and almost everyone would agree that a full, bright, and stable smile increases ones confidence and overall self esteem.
“In today’s world, we have the ability and technology to give that, (a beautiful smile), to people who were not born with it or have lost it over time due to the aging process.”
To meet the rise in demand for cosmetic dentistry, Hamburg Expressions is now offering complete smile makeovers to patients to help them achieve the ‘naturally beautiful smiles’ they desire.
“For us at Hamburg Expressions, in collaboration with our in house dental laboratory, we have become increasingly unhappy with the word “cosmetic” and prefer to use the term “naturally beautiful” to describe the main focus of our profession.
“At Hamburg Expressions, we have spent 20 years studying naturally beautiful smiles in order to replicate them for each individual. Subsequently we can now continually perfect our diagnosis and delivery of naturally beautiful dentistry that will last a lifetime, with our smile makeovers.”
All restorations and materials for the smile makeovers are created to suit each individual patient and manufactured in the on-site dental laboratory owned and operated by Dr. Miller’s husband, Neil Miller.
Neil is a certified master aesthetic dental technician who believes that often it is the structure of the teeth and bite that leads to the eventual deterioration of the smile.
“Typically, it is a misaligned bite that leads to the destruction of the teeth over time. With our smile makeover consultations, Jenny and I work to show the client why their teeth have suffered over time, what is causing it, and all of their options for how to fix it,” said Neil.
“Then, inside our onsite dental laboratory, Jenny and I, will study the models and bite patterns of the interested client, to ensure the best possible treatment recommendation to achieve the most naturally beautiful result.
“The stunning transformations in ones overall appearance after the completion of a beautiful and natural smile restoration, subsequently results in a rise in self confidence and self esteem from each and every client we have worked with. This result is the source of our passion each and every day for what we formally referred to as “cosmetic” dentistry and now affectionately refer to as naturally beautiful smile transformations.
“At our practice we always strive to provide patients with the latest and greatest treatments and products available and always work to push the boundaries of our profession for the benefit of our patients, said Neil.

DR JENNY MILLER is breaking new ground in the field of cosmetic dentistry as one of the first in her area to offer patients the very latest technology in tooth whitening, the KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System.
As the principal dentist at her Hamburg Expressions Dental Practice in Lexington Kentucky, Dr Jenny Miller is known for redefining modern dentistry and offering the latest treatments and techniques available.
Dr Miller was immediately impressed by the results of the KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System and said the revolutionary whitening treatment is considered to be the most consistent and effective bleaching system ever developed.
“At our practice we always strive to provide patients with the latest and greatest treatments and products available,” said Dr Miller.
“The KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System is unmatched in the dental industry when it comes to comfort, results, and patient satisfaction, which is why we are advocating this brilliant technology. ”
“Where other whitening systems produce only about a 35% success rate, the KöR System has produced a 90% patient success rate,” she said.
The renowned KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System was developed by internationally prominent cosmetic dentist and bleaching expert Dr. Rod Kurthy and is now used by thousands of dental professionals world-wide.
“We have seen exceptional results in using this system on our patients, with many treatments resulting in teeth that are up to 10 shades whiter,” she said.
The KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching System works by restoring the teeth’s ability to absorb oxygen. The oxygen from its whitening gel, placed in comfortable tray’s, is absorbed deeply into the tooth, dissolving stain molecules even in tetracycline-stained teeth.
Dr Miller said the KöR system causes little to no sensitivity, is comfortable for patients, doesn’t interrupt lifestyle and is unsurpassed by any other product currently available.
“The best technology is in the fabrication of the KöR Whitening Deep Bleaching trays, which are different to any other on the market,” said Dr Miller.
The trays are custom created to suit each individual patient and manufactured in the on-site dental laboratory owned and operated by Dr. Miller’s husband, Neil Miller.
Neil is a certified master aesthetic dental technician and also believes the KöR System to be revolutionary in regards to his industry.
“Unlike other whitening trays, the KöR Whitening Trays seal the bleach inside the tray, preventing the gel from leaking into your mouth,” said Neil Miller.
